Excellent snow conditions! Short transfers from Denver!
Winter Park is excellent for those wanting a short transfer after a long flight from the UK. The shuttles from Denver make it up to Winter Park in approx 90mins and so this matches transfer times you often find in France or Austria a little closer to home.
You come to Winter Park for the snow conditions!
The resort is said to receive the most snow of all the Colorado resorts and there was no shortage of snow when I was there in December! This allowed me to try skiing real powder for the first time and after a few runs I had found my feet and this mountain provided a fantastic end to a weeks skiing in Colorado. The sister mountain, Mary Jane, also extends the ski area and helps to spread skiers across the vast area available.
The town is situated a mile down the road, reached on the shuttles, but work has been done to also create more of a village atmosphere at the foot of the mountain and more accommodation options are now available in this area.
I stayed at the Winter Park Mountain Lodge which was just a 5 minute ride on the shuttle which stops right outside the hotel.
The rooms have excellent views of the mountain.
Another cool feature of this property is that it has it's own on-site micro-brewery which can fill a couple of evenings trying the local brew!
